Our History
Six decades of educating girls in Homa Bay.
Ogande Girls' High School was established in 1964 as a joint initiative between the Government of Kenya, through the African District Council, and the Church Missionary Society (CMS).
The founding head teacher was the late Mr. Richard Ondeng', an Education Officer in South Nyanza District, who worked alongside Miss G.M. Churchill, the first missionary head teacher brought to the school by the CMS that same year.
Since then, the school has been sponsored by the Anglican Church of Kenya, Diocese of Southern Nyanza, and has grown under a succession of principals into one of Homa Bay County's established girls' boarding schools — producing, in the words of its own motto, girls who go forth "in faith and action."
A Line of Leadership
Heads of School, 1964 to Today
Miss G.M. Churchill — the first missionary head teacher, brought to Ogande by the Church Missionary Society in the school's founding year.
Miss Jean Buckley continued the missionary headship through the 1970s.
Mrs. Rachel Odongo took over the headship, marking the transition to African leadership at the school.
The school has since been headed by a succession of principals, continuing the standards set at its founding.
The school is led by Chief Principal Dr. Jenipher Andedo Otolo, supported by a team of deputy principals.
